In memoriam of our respected and much loved co-coordinator and colleague at ECE Waitakere, Anita (Antonia) Weir, sadly passed away in December 2010. Her vision for improving quality early childhood education experiences for tamariki and their wha¯nau will continue to forefront our planning and decision making at ECE Waitakere. Anita was also a valued foster parent who, with her husband Derek, cared for many children and babies. Anita consistently displayed selflessness; always putting others first, often before her own needs. She believed that caring for children was the way to make our community a better place for everyone to live, and she put her beliefs into action daily. She advocated for cultural awareness in the community, and for the rights of those without a voice.

We will miss Anita; her vision, her humor and her enthusiasm, but we will honour her by doing the best we can to live up to her ideals.

He aha te mea nui o te ao?

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

What is the most important thing in the world?

It is people, people, people.
