Our goal:
The Waitakere Early Childhood Education (ECE) Call to Action is a network of agencies and people passionate about the importance of the early childhood years and the significance of early childhood education and learning as a critical foundation for future development. The ECE Call to Action arose out of a community Summit convened by the former Waitakere City Council in 2002 when the inter-sectoral Waitakere Wellbeing Collaboration Project was established. Several priority areas were identified for Calls to Action including Early Childhood Education (ECE) with the objective ‘Every child has access to a quality early childhood education’.
ECE-Express and ECE Waitakere is now part Auckland Council's Wellbeing Project and the ECE Call to Action is created by collaborative working partnerships which promote the importance of children’s education. Lifelong learning patterns start at home in collaboration with early childhood learning and development. We continue to advocate for our West Auckland community by encouraging the Integration of early years child education services and linking with health, government agencies and community support providers in the area.

What we do:
Promote early childhood learning and development: Encouraging parents and the community to be involved in the parenting role and promoting social inclusion and multi-culturalism by treasuring the uniqueness of each child. Help our local community to value ECE for their children and build a clear understanding of the reasons why families cannot access ECE within our community.
Advocacy and policy representation for our unique West Auckland community: By creating collaborative working partnerships to implement monitoring planning systems on services and community developments to make sure they include early education for children at our local community level.
Advice, information and support to users and providers: For all Waitakere early childhood education services and users including: day care groups, preschools, kindergartens, Playcentres, playgroups, parent and toddler groups and other under-five education and language groups.
Integrating early years child education services: Providing and implementing strategy to support the level of qualifications held by the Waitakere ECE workforce in voluntary and professional sectors. We provide training and development opportunities to improve quality via various professional ECE development forums and workshops. We recognise and support the voluntary sector of early childcare services at a time of increased pressure for all parents and communities.
Encouraging good practice, providing resources and PR tools Such as early childhood collaborative events including: Toddler Day Out and The Big Breakfast Bash. Providing contacts, newsletters, sharing resources, using the website as a central accessible database and search facility.
